NJU better serves Jiangsu to advance the new practice of Chinese Modernization

On February 27, 2024, NJU released its Action Plan on Serving Jiangsu to Advance the New Practice of Chinese Modernization. The plan is also referred as "7291" Initiative." The overarching aim of the initiative is to comprehensively bolster NJU's ability to support Jiangsu's high-quality development and facilitate its advancement of the new practice of Chinese modernization.



The “7” denotes the Initiative’s seven strategic plans: stimulating technological innovation, striving to tackle industrial challenges through technological development, attracting innovative talents, advocating international cooperation and exchanges, promoting Chinese culture, empowering social governance, and optimizing the educational structure. The “29” signifies the number of key tasks including enhancing basic research to turbocharge economic productivity. The “1” underscores the singular focus on improving one capacity: serving Jiangsu's high-quality development. 

According to the “7291” Initiative, NJU will play a leading, supporting, and demonstrating role to serve Jiangsu’s high-quality development. NJU plans to optimize its disciplinary structure to align with Jiangsu’s industrial demands. It’ll significantly enhance its capability to assist the province to build a globally influential innovation center for industrial technology, and effectively improve its ability to address technological challenges and facilitate the industrial application of technology achievements. In addition, NJU will focus on attracting more top talents, and maintain an innovative environment through continued international interactions. It will also effectively contribute to Jiangsu’s culture development and governance capacity. NJU will also improve its internal operational mechanism to serve Jiangsu’s development.

Tan Tieniu, Secretary of the CPC NJU Committee and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, hoped that the university will achieve breakthroughs in cooperation with the local government and make greater contributions to the new chapter of Jiangsu's modernization.


Tan Zheming, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, emphasized that NJU will better contribute to Jiangsu’s social development and the improvement of the people’s wellbeing.


Lu Yanqing, Vice President of NJU, introduced the background and specific content of the "7291" Initiave.


Prof. Ren Hongqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the School of Environment of NJU, and Prof. An Tongliang, dean of the School of Business of NJU, introduced the typical cases and achievements of NJU's service to Jiangsu Province.
